Three Peaks Climbing: Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche East 

The Everest Three Peaks Climbing expedition is a challenging and rewarding adventure that involves climbing three peaks in the Everest region of Nepal: Island Peak (6,189m), Lobuche Peak (6,119m), and Pokalde Peak (5,806m). This expedition designed for experienced climbers who have some prior experience climbing at high altitudes and are looking for a new challenge. Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, is the highest of the three peaks and is located in the Sagarmatha National Park. The climb to Island Peak involves a technical climb that requires the use of ropes, crampons, and other climbing equipment. The climb to the summit typically takes around 12-14 days. Lobuche Peak is also in the Sagarmatha National Park and known for its steep and challenging summit ridge. The climb to the summit of Lobuche Peak takes around 18-20 days and involves a mix of technical climbing and high altitude trekking. Pokalde Peak, also known as Dolma Ri, is located near the Gokyo Valley and is the smallest of the three peaks. The climb to the summit of Pokalde Peak is less technical than the other two peaks and takes around 12-14 days.

Preparing for the Everest Three Peaks Climbing Expedition: Experience, Fitness, and Ideal Timing

To undertake the Everest Three Peaks Climbing expedition, it recommend that climbers have prior experience climbing at high altitudes and have completed some technical climbing courses. It is also important to have a good level of fitness and endurance as the climb to the summits of these peaks involves long days of trekking and climbing in high altitude conditions. The best time to undertake the Everest Three Peaks Climbing expedition is from March to May and from September to November, when the weather conditions are favorable and the skies are clear. During these months, climbers can expect to experience clear views of the surrounding Himalayan mountains and can enjoy a challenging and rewarding climb to the summits of these three peaks.

Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu [1,345 meters/ 4,411 feet] and hotel transfer

On the first day of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will receive you at the airport and drop you off at your hotel. After getting refreshed and some rest, you can stroll around the capital city, checking out the nearby highlights of this bustling city.

You will visit our office in the evening to gather information about your upcoming adventure; we will also host a welcome dinner party to celebrate our affiliation and the start of your wonderful Himalayan adventure. After dinner, you will be dropped back to your respective hotel for an overnight stay.

 

Day 02: Sightseeing day and climb preparation

The second day of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing is an exciting day’s adventure as you get the opportunity to explore the architectural marvels of this incredible country with rich history, fascinating culture, and traditions. You will also explore a few of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in the capital valley.

Meanwhile, we will arrange all the necessary paperwork required for this expedition on this day; your guide will also provide you with details about the adventure on this day. If you haven’t finished shopping for the Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you can use Day 1 and Day 2 to buy or rent the equipment at Kathmandu.

 

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lukla [2,800 meters/ 9,184 feet] flight and trek to Phakding [2,640 meters/ 8,659 feet]

The exhilarating adventure of Day 3 in your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing starts with an exciting and thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. In this day’s about 40-minute flight, you will enjoy the incredible views of the sparkling peaks as you fly over the lush valley heading toward the wide pasture and glacial moraines of the Himalayan region.

After landing on Lukla, you will meet the rest of the expedition crew and prepare for the second part of this day’s adventure. Leaving the vibrant town of Lukla behind, you will descend down to the banks of the Thado Kosh River and cross a suspension bridge. Then, moving along the scenic trekking route, you will head toward Ghat, and a short walk from here will take you to the Phakding Village.

 

Day 04: Phakding to Namche Bazaar trekking

Today, you will follow the charming trails alongside the Dudh Koshi River, trekking past the lush rhododendron, pine, and fir forests. On Day 4 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, leaving Phakding behind, you will move along the scenic trail heading toward the Sherpa village Monjo during the first part. You will also be able to catch a stunning glimpse of the Thamserku from Benkar Village in this trekking route.

Moving further in your trekking route, a gradually descending trail will lead you toward Jorsale, the last village enroute to the Phakding- Namche trek. The moderate path with the stunning visuals will make this day’s trek an exhilarating experience; after reaching the Hillary Suspension Bridge, you will follow a steep climb section that will lead you straight to the Sherpa Capital, Namche Bazaar.

 

Day 05: Acclimatizing day at Namche Bazaar [3,440 meters/ 11,283 feet]

After gaining an incredible altitude on the mainstream trekking route of the Everest Base Camp Trek, Day 5 in your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing will be a rest day. You will use this day to properly acclimatize with the rising altitude before pushing further up ahead. It is recommended that you should do some physical activities to acclimatize properly at the rising altitude, so you can do some short hikes on this day to popular highlights in the region like Sherpa Villages- Khunde and Khumjung, Everest View Hotel, Sagamatha National Park Visitor Center, Hillary School, etc.

With the rest of the free day, you can explore the cafes and restaurants or stroll around the town exploring the unique culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the natives, heavily influenced by the Tibetan culture. If you are lucky, you also might get to witness the weekly bazaar that takes place in Namche every Saturday.

 

Day 06: Trekking from Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche [3,867 meters/ 12,683 feet]

 5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

You wil start the trekking adventure on Day 6 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, enjoying the stunning views of EverestLhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and other adjacent peaks. Moving along your gradual trails with few ascends and descends, you will first reach Kayangjuma, and the path further up ahead stretches to Sansa, a major junction point that separates the route of Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp Trek.

Then, moving along the charming trails of rhododendron and pine forests, you will follow the banks of the Dudh Koshi River and cross a bridge over the river to reach Phunki Thenga. From here, you will overcome the steep climbing section through the pine forests to finally arrive at Tyangboche.

 

Day 07: Tyangboche to Dingboche [4,260 meters/ 13,972 feet]

The stunning views of the towering peaks at the backdrop of the Tyangboche will give you fresh start on the trekking route of this day. Leaving Tangboche behind on Day 7 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will follow the spiritual trails across the chortens, mani walls, and traditional settlements.

Moving along the moderate walking trail, you will enter the Imja Valley, descend to the confluence of the Lobuche River, and climb a trek on the steep section during the last part of the trek to reach Dingboche.

 

Day 08: Dingboche to Pokalde Peak Base Camp [4,900 meters/ 16,072 feet] trek

 4-5 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

On Day 8 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will move toward the first objective of this Himalayan expedition. Enjoying the magnificent views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Twitch, and other adjacent peaks, you will walk on the ridge to the north behind the village. Although it is short, this day’s excursion will reward you with some of the most picturesque views of the Himalayan vistas as you look toward the northwest, moving along the trekking trail.

After about 4-5 hours of trekking, you will reach the Pokalde base Camp which is near the massive circular lake right below the Kongma La Pass. Upon reaching the campsite, the expedition crew will set up the camps and make the arrangements for the scaling adventure starting tomorrow. Overnight stay at the camp in Pokalder Peak Base Camp.

 

Day 09: Trek from Pokalde Peak Base Camp to High Camp [5,400 meters/ 17,712 feet]

 4-5 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

Your mountain-scaling adventure in the Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing will finally start on Day 9 of your expedition. Today, leaving the base camp, you will ascend on the alpine environment, heading toward Kongma La Pass [5,550 meters/ 18,209 feet].

Moving along with the ascending trail, you will witness the majestic frozen lakes of the wide basin; after about 4-5 hours of scaling, you will finally arrive at High Camp. You will rest here tonight, enjoying the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks like Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Makalu, and Cholatse.

 

Day 10: High Camp to Pokalde Peak [5,806 meters/ 19,048 feet] Summit and trekking down to Chhukung [4,730 meters/ 15,518 feet]  

8-9 hrs climbing Pokalde Peak  Lodge

You will start the summit push of Day 10 in your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition early in the morning to avoid the afternoon high winds. Overcoming the challenging trails through the narrow rocky trails, you will push for the summit of this magnificent 5,000-meter class mountain, which is about 12km southwest of the highest peak in the world, Mt. Everest [8,848 meters/ 29,028 feet].

After enjoying the captivating views from the top of the mountain, you will climb down to the base camp and head toward Chhukung, which is on the left side of the Imja Khola. You will celebrate your successful summit of Pokalde Peak here tonight and get much-deserved rest to prepare for the adventure up ahead.

 

Day 11: Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp [5,087 meters/ 16,685 feet]

 3-4 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

After the summit of Pokalde Peak, on Day 11 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will move toward the second highlight of this expedition. Exiting the Chukkung Village, you will follow the steep trail on the south side and turn east to join the main trekking trail toward the southern ridge of the Lhotse Glacier.

Then, moving further up ahead in your trekking trail, you will walk on the pleasant trails alongside a stream. The cross-route through the Imja Glacier and Lhotse Glacier on the trail opens the path to the wide valley, which leads to the southwest side of the Island Peak. Your expedition will set up camps and prepare warm meals for you as you rest up here tonight, preparing for the big adventure tomorrow.

 

Day 12: Summit of Island Peak [6,189 meters/ 20,299 feet] and return to base camp

 9-10 hrs climbing Island Peak & back  Tented Camp

It is time to move toward the second major highlight of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing; you will again start your scaling adventure really early in the morning to avoid the high winds in the noon. Moving along the steep hillside for several hundred meters, you will reach the high camp, and moving through the rocky gully toward a ridgeline, you will arrive at the snout of the summit glacier.

You will use fixed rope from this point onward to overcome the crevasses on the glacier, and the steep snow slope during the final stretch of the calling will lead you to the summit of Island Peak. From the summit of Island Peak, you will be able to enjoy the incredible views of the Himalayan massifs like Lhotse, Makalu, Nuptse, Baruntse, and other adjacent peaks. After relishing the Himalayan ambiance from the top of the mountain, you will climb down to the base camp, where you will rest tonight, celebrating your successful summit.

 

Day 13: Island Peak Base Camp to Dingboche [4,260 meters/ 13,972 feet]

 5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

Now, after completing the expedition of two peaks in your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, it is time to move toward the final highlight of this expedition. After cleaning the base camp and packing your equipment, you will retrace your steps back to Dingboche on this day. In this day’s short trekking adventure, you will first walk past Chukkung, enjoying the views of the clear Himalayan vistas, and reach Dingboche. Overnight stay at the finest teahouse in Dingboche.

 

Day 14: Trekking from Dingboche to Lobuche [4,930 meters/ 16,170 feet]  

5-6 hrs Trek  Lodge

Moving along with the exhilarating and thrilling trekking route of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing on Day 14, you will join the mainstream Everest Base Camp Trek route. Following the ascending trail, you will first trek to Dughla across the Khumbu Khola Valley, and moving along the trail; you will arrive at the yak herder’s settlement, Dusa.

The narrow route up ahead stretches to Phulung Karpo, and after crossing a wooden bridge, you will arrive at Dughla. Steep ascent from Dughla on the glacial moraines of the Khumbu Glacier, then finally bring you to Lobuche. We will be accompanied by the Himalayan peaks like Lingtren, Pumori, Khumbuste, and Mahalangur Himal on this day’s epic trekking trails. Overnight stay at teahouse in Lobuche.

 

Day 15: Lobuche to Gorakshep [5,180 meters/ 16,990 feet] to Everest Base Camp [5,380 meters/ 17,646 feet] and trek back to Gorakshep

 7-8 hrs Trek  Lodge

On Day 15 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will explore the most popular trekking route in the Himalayas; this day’s adventure takes you on the highest base camp expedition in the world. Today, leaving the Lobuche behind, you will make your way toward the foothills of the tallest mountain in the world. Trekking past the Gorakshep, you will follow the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and continue straight ahead to the Everest Base Camp.

After arrival at the base camp, you will be able to see colorful campsites at the base of the mountain of the mountaineers preparing to scale the mountain. Enjoying the magical ambiance at the base of the tallest mountain in the world, surrounded by other peaks like Nuptse, Pumori, and Khumbutse to your heart’s content, you will then trek down to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

 

Day 16: Morning hike from Gorakshep to KalaPatthar [5,545 meters/ 18,187  6-7 hrs Trek  Lodge

It is said that any adventure in the Khumbu region is incomplete without the hike to KalaPatthar. So, on Day 16 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will do an early morning hike to KalaPatthar; this vantage point of the Khumbu region will offer wonderful views of the Himalayan panorama of towering peaks like Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and several other peaks.

Capturing the remarkable sunrise views from the KalaPatthar and immersing in the magnificence of the white-clad peaks, you will then trek down to Gorakhep for breakfast. You will then retrace your steps back to Lobuche where you will make your preparation for the next scaling adventure.

 

Day 17: Lobuche to Lobuche Peak Base Camp [4,950 meters/ 16,240 feet]  

1-2 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

On Day 17 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will leave Lobuche behind, heading toward the next major highlight of this expedition, Lobuche Peak. It’s a short and scenic day’s trekking adventure today; you will trek on the relatively plain trail for some distance, then switch trail to the steep rocky sections as you approach the base camp.

Upon your arrival at the Lobuche Base Camp, the expedition crew will set up camps and start making preparations for the scaling adventure tomorrow. After arranging your equipment and practicing your mountaineering skills, you will turn in for the night at the base camp.

 

Day 18: Trekking from Lobuche Peak Base Camp to High Camp [5,400 meters/ 17,712 feet]

 3-4 hrs Trek  Tented Camp

After breakfast, you start your scaling adventure on the last peak of this Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing expedition on the route that is generally covered with snow. This uphill ascend from base camp to high camp takes approximately 4 hours; following the rocky moraine paths above the base camp, you will push for the high camp.

As you gain a significant altitude on this day’s climb, it is recommended that you take it slow and stay hydrated. After arriving at the high camp, the expedition crew will set up the camping site, and you can do some short walks around the High Camp to acclimatize properly.

 

Day 19: Lobuche Peak [6,119 meters/ 20,070 feet] summit and climb down to High Camp

 8-9 hrs climbing Lobuche Peak  Tented Camp

The scaling on Day 19 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing also starts early in the morning, so you won’t have trouble dealing with strong high winds after 12:00 p.m. You will overcome the rocky scrambling trail to the glacier above the glacier and move along the ridge that leads to the summit. In this day’s scaling adventure, you will use fixed rope and other mountaineering tools, like ice axes, crampons, harnesses, etc., to overcome the semi-technical slopes of the mountain.

From the top of this amazing peak in the Khumbu region, you will be able to witness the magnificence of towering peaks like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Pumori, Ama Dablam, and several other adjacent peaks. After enjoying the magical views, you will then begin your downhill trek; you will climb down all the way to the base camp and rest here, celebrating your successful summit of Lobuche.

 

Day 20: Lobuche Peak Base Camp to Pangboche [3,985 meters/ 12,982 feet]

 4-5 hrs Trek  Accommodation: Tea House Lodge

Day 20 officially marks the completion of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing; from this day onward, you will move along with your descending trail. Trekking down the hillside you will move past the foothills of the Ama Dablam, heading toward Pheriche. Continuing with your descending trail alongside the rhododendrons and juniper forest, you will arrive at Pangboche, your resting destination tonight.

 

Day 21: Trekking from Pangboche to Namche Bazaar

 5-6 hrs Trek  Accommodation: Tea House Lodge

Moving further with your descending trail on Day 21 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will trek past Tengboche and retrace your steps back to the banks of Dudh Koshi River. Then, traversing across other popular settlements along the route, like Phunki Thenga, Sansa, and Kayangjuma, you will re-enter the Sherpa capital.

 

Day 22: Trekking down to Lukla from Namche Bazaar [3,440 meters/ 11,283 feet]  

6-7 hrs Trek  Lodge

On Day 22 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will descend further down to the gateway of Everest, leaving the Sherpa capital behind. It is a moderate downhill trekking adventure today, and you will return down the Dudh Koshi Valley. Trekking past the Phadking Village, Thado Koshi River, and Toktok, you will then trek back to Lukla.

 

Day 23: Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla [2,800 meters/ 9,184 feet]

 35 min flight  Hotel/Resort

It is time to part with the Himalayan region; on Day 23 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing, you will fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla. After your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be dropped back at your hotel; you can use the remaining part of the day to rest or explore Kathmandu.

 

Day 24: Leisure day at Kathmandu [1,345 meters/ 4,411 feet]

You can use 24 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing to explore the capital and the remaining part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites that you missed on the first day. You can also use this day to shop for souvenirs to remember your adventure. In the evening, we will host a farewell dinner to celebrate the completion of your adventure.

 

Day 25: Departure day, airport drop-off

Day 25 of your Pokalde, Island, and Lobuche Peak Climbing will be the departure; our representative will pick you up at your hotel according to the flight schedule and drop you off at the airport. Thank you for climbing with Friendship World Trek, have a safe journey.
