You will later inspect and prepare all of the equipment and paperwork for the hike along with your guide. You will wander through Thamel’s vibrant streets in the evening.
You will start your Upper Dolpo Trekking adventure today by taking a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, which is situated in the western region of the country. An hour-long flight will provide you with stunning vistas of the Terai area. You will check into your hotel as soon as you arrive in Nepalgunj. One of Nepal’s busiest towns, Nepalgunj is located close to the border with India. Here, you may tour the local marketplaces and towns as well as the miniature zoo.
You will fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal after a revitalizing breakfast. You will get breathtaking views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Annapurna (8,091 m) during the flight (8,167 m). You will meet up with the rest of your crew today to start the most exciting Upper Dolpo Trek journey of your life. You arrive at the Bheri River after hiking through the terraced farms. The route will lead you to Dunai, the Dolpo region’s administrative center, from here.
You will cross a suspension bridge and go west along a wooded route after leaving Dunai behind. The Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail will continue to ascend till it reaches Thulo Bheri valley. You will have wonderful views of Kagmara Peak along the route. The trail then winds through tiny towns and walnut plantations. Once you get to Ankhe, you will descend through a forest and spend the night in a tented camp.
You will climb a difficult route while walking along a forested riverside. Today’s hike will involve a lot of ascents and descents, but you can stay cool because of the trail’s numerous streams. The Upper Dolpo Trek trail will continue past the grassy hill after leaving the trees. Then you will go through a thick forest till you get to a precipice. You will descend from here on a rough, shaky stairway; take care. You will hike further from the river bank till you reach Sulighat.
You will hike today to the junction of the Phoksundo and Pungmo rivers. You will hike along the western bank of Pungmo Khola after crossing a bridge from here. The Upper Dolpo Trekking Route will continue on and enter a cedar woodland before arriving at Palam settlement. Then you will climb to a ridge and descend through birch trees that are thick and green. After passing Phoksundo Kola, the settlement of Ringmo is in sight. You may reach Phoksundo Lake from here by taking a short stroll.
According to your Upper Dolpo Trek Itinerary, this will be a day of relaxation so that you can adjust to the high altitude. You will spend the day seeing Ringmo village on a brief outing. You will see an old Tibetan Buddhist monastery here. You will be able to observe local residents’ daily activities as well as their extensive culture and traditions. You will spend some time later taking in the grandeur of the stunning Phoksundo Lake and its surroundings.
You will stumble upon a crevasse while hiking around Phoksundo Lake’s western shore. It will be a rough and unstable trail. The Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail will lead you across a verdant meadow and to the plain of Phoksundo Khola from the westernmost point of the lake. You will proceed via a valley and bridge a river from here. The Phoksundo Khola, where you spend the night, will be reached. You will spend the night in a tent camp.
The Phoksundo Khola and another mountain stream meet at the junction of the Upper Dolpo Trek Route, which takes you to the north side through a glacier valley. You go northeast and rise to a lovely sheep pasture after crossing a deteriorated bridge. The route takes you up to the top of the steep ravine from where you can get breathtaking views of Kang La Pass. You will also get to see amazing views of Chamlang peak 6 (6,739 m) and peak 7 (6,105 m).
Early in the morning, you will climb a hard trail toward a pass. Although the ascent will be difficult, the view of the surrounding region from the summit will be spectacular. You will also do a steep trail descent and a stroll by a river’s edge. You will journey across meadows and cross this river multiple times at various locations. The meadow is home to several yaks, mountain goats, and sheep that are grazing. You will eventually arrive in Shey Gompa for the night after crossing a log bridge.
Your Upper Dolpo Trekking Itinerary specifies that today is your second acclimatization day at Shey Gompa. The old monastery Shey Gompa, constructed in 1655, will be your destination. This monastery is renowned for its enormous copper statue of a sitting Shakyamuni Buddha that is covered in plated gold. East of the gompa is Crystal Mountain, which you can view. Given that its cliffs are coated in quartz and a wide array of marine fossils, this mountain is among the oddest in all of Nepal. You will afterward stroll around the Shey village. Here, you may observe the Bon Po way of life.
After passing past juniper trees, the Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail will continue to drop until it reaches a rocky canyon. From here, you may hike up to the summit of Saldang La Pass by following a zigzag path across rocky terrain. The route then turns south and leads to Namduna Gaun. You will enjoy a picturesque view of sheep and yaks grazing in the meadows along the way. You will see the historic Namgung monastery at Namduna Gaun, which was constructed of red stone.
Your Upper Dolpo Trekking Route will leave Namduna Gaun today. From there, you will start to climb a slope and hike to Saldang via a dusty trail. After 3 to 4 hours of difficult climbing, you will reach 4800m. Then you make your way down the precipitous hill to the charming settlement of Saldang, which is perched high above the Nam Khong Nala on a plateau. The largest village in the lower Dolpo region, Saldang is affluent both via agriculture and as a result of its advantageous location along a trade route to Tibet.
You will start the day by trekking through a desolate area along the Nagon Khola in the north. Your Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail is going to be very simple today with only a few ascents and descents. You will next bridge the Panzang River after passing the villages of Marang and Ki. When you reach Yangze gompa, an old Bon Po monastery, the route curves to the east, and you will cross one more river to get there.
There are two pathways that take you to Sibu. You will return to Saldang village by using the simple route. To reach Namdo hamlet from Saldang, you must travel alongside a river and through stupas, chortens, terraced fields, and mani stones. You will continue your Upper Dolpo Trekking Itinerary for a further two hours to get to Sibu after seeing Namdo monastery.
The Upper Dolpo Trek Route travels alongside caravans while following Nam Khong Khola. You will eventually arrive at the meeting point of two tiny streams by continuing your walk east. From here, a difficult route will ascent to the grazing region beneath Jeng La Pass. You will spend the night in a lovely meadow.
You will get up early this morning to start your adventure to Tokyu Gaon. The first stage of the Upper Dolpo Trekking Path is to ascend to Jeng La Pass, where you will be greeted with a breathtaking panorama of Mount Dhaulagiri’s north face (8167m). After there, the track descends to a rocky pathway that leads to Tarap Valley. You must journey from here to Tokyu Gaon, where you will spend the night.
You will pass by the grassy region that will give you a new picture of Inner Dolpo as you descend on a plain valley. You will pass through a marsh along the journey, which is typical of the desert mountain region. Additionally, the Upper Dolpo Trek Route from here will lead you to the settlement of Dho Tarap, which is encircled by crooked stone walls. You may practice the distinctive Bon Po and Chaiba religions here.
As per your Upper Dolpo Trekking Itinerary, this is the third rest day for acclimatization at the village of Dho Tarap. This rest day will aid in your acclimatization and provide us with a chance to tour the community and its surroundings. You will get to talk to locals and learn about their way of life, culture, and traditions. Religions practiced here are Chaiba and Bon Po. You may sample their offerings and admire their lovely attire.
Your Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail will descend from Dho Tarap to a broad valley that narrows much more into a canyon. You may view blue sheep herds while hiking among the juniper and wild rose plants. You will arrive at the meeting point of Lang Khola and Tarap Chu. You will stay the night in a tented camp next to Tarap Khola in a pleasant meadow known as Kamakharka.
You will hike into the Tarap River’s gorge after breakfast. You will see locals moving their livestock to lower grass along the road. Additionally, the Upper Dolpo Trekking Route will pass through a ravine that is really tiny and where you may simply jump from one spot to another. It will be a challenging trial. The trial will also get more exciting when you cross tiny creeks on foot since bridges may be destroyed or swept away.
You will arrive in Lalberi village by using the Upper Dolpo Trek Route. The route next passes through an area of deep woodland before descending to another canyon. You will eventually get to a river after hiking through the gorge. You may reach Tarakot by hiking along a river’s edge, where you can visit Sandul Gompa. The confluence of Barbung Khola and Tarap Chu lies 8 kilometers (8 miles) east of the town where this gompa is situated. You will make a pit break at Tarakot and spend the night in a tent city.
You will walk back to Dunai along the same route. You will hike behind the Bheri River after crossing a bridge close to Lawan Village. The Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail then climbs to Byas Gadi before heading west over a simple route. After crossing a river close to Lochakhola Gaon, you will climb and arrive in Dunai for the night.
You can trek alongside the Bheri River and take in the stunning views along the route. You will also pass via the villages of Dhupichaur and Rupgad. After passing past the villages of Motipur and Kalagaonda, the Upper Dolpo Trekking Trail brings you to a tiny airfield from which you may fly back to Jhupal.
You will depart Juphal in the early morning for a brief picturesque flight to Nepalgunj after breakfast. Flying above the foothills of the Himalayas, the aircraft offers breathtaking views of peaks to the north, including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Your Upper Dolpo Trekking Itinerary will come to an end when you reach Nepalgunj and board the next aircraft back to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, you will check into your hotel and unwind for the day. You will spend the night in a hotel with three stars today.
You have the day off today in Kathmandu. You may unwind for the day, go shopping, and explore the area. If you would like, we can also set up a guided tour of the sites you missed the first time. You will enjoy a lovely goodbye supper this evening as you prepare to depart for your homeland tomorrow and celebrate the successful end of your Upper Dolpo Trekking Journey.
