Druk Path Trek (10 Nights/ 11 Days)

This is a moderate five days trek which leads from Paro to Thimpu or vice versa, crossing the chain of mountains that secludes the two valleys. The route is sparsely inhabited but there are beautiful lakes and the area is also famous for its wild rhododendron forests. The views of the Himalayan ranges while walking is also spectacular.

The best season for trekking in this region is from late February to June and from September to December.

Day 01:           Arrive Paro.

Day 02:           Paro

                        We drive northwest up the valley to Drukgyel Dzong, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders.Then we make a visit to village houses, Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of Bhutan.

                        In the afternoon, we visit Ta Dzong (national museum) and Rinpung Dzong, 'the fortress of the heap of jewels'.

Day 03:           Paro – Jele Dzong

                        8km/ 3hours

                        Trek starts from today. The journey starts with a short climb up to Jele Dzong. The trek trail ascends gradually up to the camp. Above the camp is Jele- la pass (3,400km) and Jele Dzong (mostly in ruins).

Day 04:           Jele Dzong – Jangchulakha

                        10 km/ 3-4 hours

                        Begin with a one and half hour climbn and then ascen gradually upwards. The trail takes you through the thick alpine forests and rhododendrons. Yak herders can also be seen around the campsite.

Day 05:           Jangchulakha – Jimilangtsho

                        11km/ 4 hours

                        The trail follows the ridge, and on a clear day the views of the mountains and valleys are sensational. A magnificient view of Jichu Drake (6,989m), the peak representing the protective deity of Paro is also seen.

Day 06:           Jimilangtsho – Simkota

                        11km/ 4 hours

                        The trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron trees and passes by the lake of Janetsho.

                        We camp overnight close to Simkota late


Day 07:           Simkota – Phajoding

                        10km/ 4 hours

                        Today begins with a gradual climb and if weather permits, you get to enjoy the majestic views of Mt. Gangkar Puensum and other peaks. The trail slowly descends through juniper tress to a campsite beside a community hall near Phajoding cafeteria.

Day 08:           Phajoding – Thimpu

                        5km/ 3 hours

                        The trek to Thimpu is downhill all the way, passing through a forested area of mostly blue pine. Taking a leisurely pace, you reach Thimpu in about 3 hours.

Day 09:           Excursion to Punakha/ Wangduephodrang

                        After breakfast, full day excursion to Punakha and Wangdue valleys.

                        In the evening, drive back to Thimpu

Day 10:           Thimpu – Paro

                        Today will be full day sightseeing of Thimpu

                        The sightseeing includes National Memorial Chorten built as a memorial to Bhutan's third king. The chorten is also a monument of world peace and prosperity.

                        Tashichhodzong- the impressive fortress/ monastery housing some ministries, Handicrafts Emporium- a wide assortment of handwoven textiles and other craft products, National Library which boasts of an extensive collection some dating back hundred years, Institute for Zorig Chusum where the 13 traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts are taught and National Institute of Traditional Medicine


                        In the evening, drive to Paro

                        Overnight at the hotel in Paro


Day 11:           After breakfast, drive to the airport for departure
